Mokokchung, December 15 (MTNews): Er. Zale Neikha, Advisor, Youth Resource & Sports, govt. of Nagaland unveiled the foundation stone for laying of Astro Turf at Rempukong, Ungma, Mokokchung in the presence of Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly; Mestubo Jamir, Minister, Rural Development and Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, and President, Mokokchung District Sports Council.
During his speech, Neikha announced that the government will set up AstroTurf grounds in six districts in Nagaland, some of which have been completed and some of which are ongoing projects. He also stated that when the government first started the Astroturf project, it was not initially accepted wholeheartedly but after the project was completed, good feedback was received from the people, particularly the youth.
He commended the landowners for donating the land in the interest of the people and recommended that the Astroturf be used not just for football but also for other games and sports.
Sharingain Longkumer meanwhile stated that a project of this magnitude would not have been possible without the assistance of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio having a vision of the future. He also praised and appreciated the landowners’ benevolence, without which such an ambitious undertaking would not have been possible.
Earlier, brief exhortations were made by Alemtoshi Imsong, Tatar representing the Village Council, Ungma and R. Nungshilepden Jamir, Tatar and VC Chairman representing the landowners.
