The Zapami Welfare Union Dimapur (ZWUD) held its General Meeting on 8th March 2025 at Kuzhami Baptist Church, Chümoukedima, marking an important gathering for the Zapami community. The programme was chaired by Wekhrope Kenye, Vice-Chairperson of ZWUD.
The event began with an opening prayer by Neipe-ü Khutso, Chairperson of the Zapami Women Welfare Union Dimapur, followed by an address by Kennedy Khutso, Chairman of ZWUD. A solemn moment of silence was observed to remember the departed souls.
Lhicheu Khutso and Riweu Kenye were felicitated for their notable achievements. Lhicheu Khutso was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for clearing the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) Exam 2023, securing the post of Soft Skill Instructor under the Women Resource Development Department, Government of Nagaland. Riweu Kenye was also honored for earning her Ph.D. in Economics from St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima.
A special song performance by Diepe Khutso, Youth Director of Kuzhami Baptist Church, Chümoukedima, and friends set a joyful tone for the event. Additionally, a beautiful folk song was presented by Lhicheu Khutso and Kute-u Khutso, adding a cultural touch to the gathering.
Short speeches were delivered by Neizulo Khutso, Retired Additional Director, Government of Nagaland, and SK Kenye, Retired Director, Government of Nagaland. Neizulo Khutso encouraged the community to seize the immense opportunities in the western areas and emphasized the importance of preserving the mother tongue. He called for a concerted effort to teach the language to children to ensure its survival. He also highlighted the need for decency and civilized conduct in daily life. SK Kenye shared his thoughts on the importance of hard work and discipline, stressing that success is earned by those who give their best. He also addressed the rising tattoo culture and the impact it could have on employment opportunities, urging the youth to reconsider lifestyle changes, particularly in terms of diet, to maintain financial stability.
The resolution to change the nomenclature of the Union to Western Zapami Welfare Union, along with the Motto “Stronger Together” and its Emblem, was adopted in the General Meeting.
The meeting proceeded with the presentation of reports by the Secretary and Treasurer of ZWUD. Resolutions were reaffirmed and adopted, and the new tenure office bearers for ZWUD (2025-2030) were announced, with Wekhrope Kenye appointed as President. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Chairperson and a Benediction by Neilou Wetsah.
A Get-Together Feast followed, allowing the members to socialize and strengthen community bonds.
