The evening session of the 40th General Conference of the Zunheboto Range Students’ Union (ZRSU) was held on January 7 at Yezami Village, with Akukau Hetoho S Zhimomi, President of the Sumi Kukami Hoho, gracing the programme as the main speaker.
Addressing the gathering on behalf of the Zunheboto Tokujo Kuqhakulu Dimapur Union, Er Kakiye Khuju Jakha highlighted the rising youth population in India in the 20 to 30 age group. He said the Government of India is placing greater emphasis on youth development and urged students to identify their goals at an early stage and choose the right profession. He also stressed the importance of sustainability, noting that values and teachings, including biblical principles, lose their meaning if they are not practised in daily life.
Representatives of the Zunheboto Tokujo Kuqhakulu Kohima Union encouraged students to take up agricultural activities and advised them to use social media responsibly. They said social media should be utilised to bring positive change in society and not for negative influence, including on issues related to church denominations.
Kivikhu Achumi of Hekiye Village announced that he would donate one month of his pension to the first three toppers of the HSLC examinations from the Zunheboto area as a challenge and encouragement to students. The General Secretary of the Zunheboto Tokujo Kuqhakulu Kohima Union informed that coaching and seminar programmes are being planned for students and urged them to actively participate whenever such initiatives are organised.
In his address, Hetoho S Zhimomi said that children’s efforts alone are not sufficient and that parental support is equally important. He encouraged students to give thanks to God in both success and failure and spoke on gender dynamics, observing that women are excelling in many fields while stressing the need for equal educational opportunities for both genders. He advised students to begin preparing from the high school level and highlighted opportunities available through industrial and skill development departments, even for school dropouts.
The programme was chaired by Zato H, with an invocation prayer by Hetoka Z Sumi, Pastor of Newland Baptist Church, Yezami. A special song was presented by the Kawoto Students’ Union, followed by greetings from representatives of the Zunheboto Tokujo Kuqhakulu from Dimapur and Kohima. A drama by the Lizu Old Students’ Union and a felicitation programme honouring academic achievers were also part of the event. The programme concluded with a benediction by Inokali APW Sukhalu Village.
