The Nagaland State Biodiversity Board has granted approval to a team from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) to carry out faunal surveys and specimen collection across Nagaland under the programme “Fauna of Nagaland – Phase II.”
According to official communication, the permission allows the research team to undertake faunal inventorisation in different parts of the state, excluding Protected Areas, and will remain valid till March 31, 2027.
The study will be conducted subject to the signing of a tripartite agreement between the researchers, local community authorities or Biodiversity Management Committees, and the biodiversity board.
Officials stated that separate permission must be obtained from the Chief Wildlife Warden in case the survey extends into Protected Areas.
The approval may be withdrawn in case of any violation of the conditions or failure to comply with the terms of the agreement.
