The Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) conducted Lok Adalat on 11 February 2023 at District Court, Mokokchung. Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary, MDLSA, WV Patton was the presiding officer. Panel Lawyers Limanungsang Jamir, Maongtula, and Tajungla Longkumer participated in the Lok Adalat.

 

A total of six cases were taken up in Mokokchung, which included five pre-litigation loan/bank recovery cases and one Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) case pending trial. Total settlement amount involved in the six cases was Rs 27,42,788.

 

 

 

 

Mokokchung, February 11 (MTNews): National Lok Adalat was observed in all District Headquarters which constituted eleven Lok Adalat sitting Benches today. The sittings were headed by the District Judges, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Civil Judges acting as presiding officers and were assisted by the Panel Lawyers serving as conciliators along with the Paralegal Volunteers who acted as members and facilitators.

 

According to an update from the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), a total of 237 cases were listed before the Lok Adalat sitting bench for settlement. However, the Lok Adalat managed to settle and dispose off 168 cases. Rs. 5,39,97,434 was the total settlement amount involved in the cases disposed and settled today. “This settlement amount includes the fine money, Bank recovery money, Motor Accident Claim compensation money, etc. among the disposed cases,” the NSLSA said.

 

Lok Adalats have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. Under the Act, the award (decision) made by the Lok Adalat is deemed to be a decree of a civil court and is final and binding on all parties and no further appeal against such an award lies before any court of law. Lok Adalat resolves and settles disputes by methods of direct talks between the litigants or parties amicably.

 

The system of Lok Adalat is affordable and justice delivery is quick and effective. The Lok Adalat mechanism achieve its outcome with certain elements involved such as participation, fairness, expectations, voluntariness, neighborliness, transparency and lack of animosity.

 

Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) is the implementing Nodal Agency vested with the jurisdiction to organize and conduct National Lok Adalat, or Peoples’ Court, under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

 

The NSLSA has been conducting this type of Lok Adalat in the State along with the rest of the country at regular intervals which has benefited the citizens with the privilege of settling their disputes free of cost all across the State.

 

This type of National Lok Adalat is held at regular intervals throughout the country and the State Legal Services Authorities act as the implementing agency which are statutory bodies constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987.

 

Meanwhile, the NSLSA has informed that the next National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on 13th of May, 2023. For listing matters or disputes in the next National Lok Adalat, it was informed that citizens may contact the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority or approach the respective District Legal Services Authority which are attached to the District Court Building in every District or contact the concerned Court for referring the case to the National Lok Adalat.
