Kohima, 3 October (MTNews): Red Scars FC clinched a convincing 2-0 victory over Viswemi FC in the final pre-quarterfinal showdown of the 23rd NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy, earning them a coveted spot in the quarterfinals at the IG Stadium in Kohima on Tuesday. A lackluster Viswemi FC missed their opportunities and had to settle as pre-quarterfinalists, concluding their tournament journey.

In this exciting match, Sentilong of Red Scars FC netted the opening goal in the 17th minute, propelling his team into the lead. Meanwhile, Viswemi FC squandered several chances during the first half, leaving them trailing at halftime.

The second half saw Viswemi’s best opportunity in the 50th minute when Rukuvisal Rhetso navigated past defenders, only to shoot wide of the mark.

Yhunshalo Kemp extended Red Scars FC’s lead in the 65th minute due to a defensive error, confidently slotting the ball into the net. The team maintained their clean sheet to secure the victory.

The Man of the Match award was presented to goalkeeper Horlan of Red Scars FC, with Metebo-o Sote, Secretary of Games and Sports ASU, and Secretary Organizing Committee, doing the honors.

Looking ahead, Red Scars FC is set to face Football for Change Academy Manipur on October 9 at 5 pm in the quarterfinals.

 

In other quarterfinal clashes, New Market FC will square off against A Yhome FC on October 5 at 5 pm, End of an Era will go head-to-head with Liangmai FC on October 6 at 5 pm, Asufü Football Academy from Manipur will lock horns with United FC Piphema on October 7 at 5 pm, and Football for Change Academy Manipur will battle Red Scars FC on October 9 at 5 pm.
