Mokokchung Friday League for 35+ kicked off at Assam Rifles Ground, Mokokchung today, In what might be a first of its kind event in Mokokchung.

Noksangmeren, Retired Head Coach, Nagaland State Football, who attended the inaugural program as a chief match patron, advised the players to respect one another and follow the rules and regulations of football.

 

“Sports has the power to change the world, power to inspire and power to unite people,” he said while further stressing that there is no religion, caste, tribe or race in sports. “It is a potential force to unite people and advocate development,” he said.

 

Speaking at the inaugural program, N. Jamonger Ao, Assistant Director, Food & Civil Supplies, Mokokchung, asserted on the humble beginning of the league stating that it was a way to help and contribute to the society.

 

He went on to say that the league was not owned by any one individual or group, but rather by all of the clubs and players in the league collectively. “Unity, friendship and health is the objective of the league,” he added.

Pastor Noksang speaking on the theme ’35 & Kicking’ said that there are no winners or losers in the league as even the losing team would benefit in terms of health and fitness. “Even if the age is old, there is still zeal,” he also said.

 

The debut season of the league features 6 teams, namely: New Ecclesia FC, Aturar FC, Revenant FC, Royal Enfield Mokokchung, Senso Sporting Club and Terokroker FC.

 

Week one of the season started off with Royal Enfield Mokokchung and Revenant FC settle for a draw with 2 goals each in the first match, while in the second match Senso Sporting FC humbled New Ecclesia FC with 3 goals to none. The final match of the day witnessed Aturar FC take down Terokroker FC by a goal.
