35,000 youth to be trained under PMKVY in Nagaland

Mokokchung, January 15 (MTNews): Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on Sunday said 35,000 youths will be trained under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 in Nagaland in the next 12 months as a part of Skill India Mission.

It will give a boost to the skilling efforts in the state, he said.

 

Under the program, courses and skill training efforts focusing on future-ready skills with industry backed job opportunities ranging from Al, blockchain, Electronics and IT/ITES to mobile repairing, vehicle maintenance, agriculture & allied sectors etc will be introduced for the youth, an update from PIB stated.

 

PM Narendra Modi, Chandrasekhar said, is building “New India with re-imagined ambitions and aspirations for the young Indians. There are multiple opportunities available today and therefore skills become important to take advantage of these opportunities. Skills are the new Passport to Prosperity.”

He also said in line with the PM’s vision of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, the next wave of startups and entrepreneurs must come from Kohima and other parts of North East India. “India today is at an inflection point, it is entering into its Techade and the future of India is technology. To capitalize and take advantage of this opportunity, skill training is essential,” he emphasized.

 

Nagaland has 3 PMKVY kendras and 11 training centers in the state apart from 8 Government ITIS and 2 JSSs.

 

“Through customized courses, special projects will be launched to ensure high employability – especially in the fields of green jobs, food processing, leather and sports, electronics and logistics etc. Already, 25,367 people have been trained under earlier PMKVY programs,” the update said.

 

As per the report, expansion of Skill Hubs will be undertaken in government schools, engineering and general colleges, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIS) and within industry premises, so that greater number of youths can access skilling using the existing infrastructure.

 

Nagaland Tool Room &Training Centre(NTTC) and Mongken Apparel Production Unit, both in Dimapur, National Institute Electronic & Information Tech( NIELIT) Kohima, Dimapur Government College, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma and Software Technology Park of India (STPI), Kohima are the proposed hubs and training centers under the PMKVY 4.

 

Skilling measures may be taken for certifying persons engaged in traditional art and craft, to cover Scheduled Tribes, Divyangjans, Transgenders, rural artisan groups under various skilling interventions in both short- and long-term training programs, it said.
