Tongdentsuyong, Dilong, Marepkong, Lijaba Lijen and Sangtemla registered wins on day 4 of the ongoing tournament played at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
Tongdentsuyong Ward defeated Arkong Ward 2-1 in the first match of the day. Opanglemzung scored a brace for Tongdentsuyong in the 14th and 58th minutes. Temsutoshi’s equalizer in the 51st minute for Arkong was undone by Opanglemzung’s second of his brace which confirmed Arkong’s elimination from the tournament.
In the second match of the day, an attacking Dilong team thrashed Kumlong by a score of 5 goals to nil. Bendangsunep scored a hat trick scoring at 42, 49, and 56 minutes for Dilong while Toshiwapang and Temsuyang both scored a goal each at 27 and 35 minutes past goalkeeper Lanutemjen, who received little to no help from the defenders.
Marepkong’s Takosunep scored the lone goal for the team against Majakong in the third match of the day. Nearing the end of the game, the organizers team Marepkong managed to break the deadlock against a strong Majakong side and scored a crucial goal to secure a place in the tournament’s quarterfinals.
The fourth match of the day saw heavy rain degrade the field’s condition, making it muddy and ugly. Imsunungsang and Sungtilong of Lijaba Lijen controlled the game with quick movements moving the ball back and forth across the field, scoring at the 13 and 20 minutes against Aongza.
The fifth and final match of the day saw an exciting encounter between a strong Alempang team and a young blooded Sangtemla team. Both teams managed to withstand relentless attacks during the play despite the badly deteriorated pitch, with Sangtemla’s Lanuwapang slipping the ball from the box past the goalkeeper Imliwapang in the dying minutes of the game (57th minute) to win the match 1-0. The game also saw a squabble between the Alempang players and the referee following a questionable decision.
