The 3rd Quarterly National Lok Adalat (People’s Courts) for 2024 will be observed across all district headquarters on September 14, 2024, under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA).
Eleven Lok Adalat Benches, established by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs), will facilitate the proceedings. Lok Adalats serve as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism where disputes or cases, whether pending in court or at the pre-litigation stage, are settled amicably. The Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987 grants Lok Adalats statutory status, and their awards are deemed final and binding, with no further appeal permissible in any court of law.
There is no court fee required for filing a matter in a Lok Adalat. If a case pending in court is referred to the Lok Adalat and settled, the court fee initially paid is refunded to the parties involved.
In the 2nd Quarter National Lok Adalat held on May 11, 2024, 223 out of 463 cases at pre-litigation and pending stages were resolved, with a total settlement amount of ` 3,17,44,813. These cases included civil matters such as bank recoveries, telephone bills, and MACT cases.
The disposal data for each DLSA will be uploaded on the state authority’s web portal at nslsa.nagalandgov.in
