Mokokchung, December 17 (MTNews): Under the newly approved Mission Shakti, Swadhar Greh for women in difficult circumstances and Ujjawala for Prevention of Trafficking have been merged and renamed as Shakti Sadan which is an Integrated Relief and Rehabilitation Home. This is aimed at creating a safe and enabling environment for the women in distress situations and difficult circumstances. The Shakti Sadan has provision for shelter, food, clothing, and primary health care among others.

 

As per information given by the Union Minister for Women & Child Development, Smriti Zubin Irani in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Friday, there are 441 Shakti Sadans established across the country consisting of 347 Swadhar Greh and 94 Ujjawala.

 

In Nagaland, there are 2 Shakti Sadans with Dimapur and Kohima districts each having a Swadhar Greh. There are no Ujjawala in Nagaland.

 

Shakti Sadan is a demand driven Centrally Sponsored Scheme. Under the Scheme, States/UTs forward proposals on the basis of their local need and requirement and funds are released for approved projects as per Scheme Guidelines.

 

Irani also stated that Mission Shakti Guidelines envisage setting up of Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW) at National, State and District levels for monitoring the performance of schemes and feedback from other stakeholders.
