The 47th Evergreen Club Open Volleyball Tournament 2023 will be held on 14 and 15 December at Soyim Aonglenden, Ungma, Mokokchung where a total of 12 teams from around Nagaland will compete for the Trophy and cash prizes.
Formed in the year 1966 in Ungma Village, the Evergreen Club has historically been a club deeply rooted in culture, “a club that has always led with the mindset and aim to uplift youths in different fields.” Observing the abundance of talented youths, the Evergreen Club kicked off their first volleyball tournament in the year 1976 in hopes of nurturing talents that had potential to perform at the highest level.
According to the club, after the decision for organizing the tournament was made, the club leaders went to Kohima and Dimapur in search of funding for the said tournament where Late. I. Tekachiba, E.E (PWD) donated a sum of Rs.50. The trophy that is still used today was donated by Late. N. Aliba Jamir, the then NAPTC Commandant in Chumukedima and thus the tournament set sail, the club informed.
The 47th edition of the tournament will have a total cash prize of Rs 1.35 lakhs and will be held under league-cum-knockout basis following the latest International Volleyball Federation rules.
Scheduled for both day and night matches, the 2 days are set to feature the best volleyball talents the state has to offer and a rush of adrenaline to see who will come out victorious for the 47th edition of this tournament.
