The 4th Mokokchung Inter-Ward Volleyball Tournament, organized by the Kumlong Sporting Association (KSA), kicked off today at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung, with MMC Chairman Imkongchuba as the guest of honor under the theme “Forging Champions”.
The tournament saw the participation of five wards: Kumlong, Kichutip, Penli, Mongsenbai, and Artang Ward, with defending champion Sungkomen Ward missing out on the tournament.
MMC Chairman Imkongchuba called for discipline, consistency, consistency, respect, and humility, and lauded the KSA for successfully hosting the tournament for the fourth time.
The closing ceremony of the 2-day tournament will be graced by Er Chutsusie Thowachu, Executive Engineer, Electrical Division, Mokokchung as guest of honor.
The first match was played between Kichutip and Penli Ward, where Kichutip won in straight sets, 25–10, 25–17.
A total of ten league matches were played on day-1, concluding the round robin with each team facing the other four teams participating in the tournament. Except for two, all matches were won in straight sets with the second match of the day between Kumlong Ward and Mongsenbai Ward being one of the most competitive.
On the second and final day of the tournament on Thursday, the top two ranked teams Kumlong Ward and Mongsenbai Ward will play the Qualifier 1 match, and the winner will advance directly to the final. The third and fourth ranked teams, Artang Ward and Kichutip Ward, will play the Eliminator, and the winner of that match will face the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2 to book its berth in the final. Penli Ward was eliminated in the league round.
