Call for collective support to strengthen sports ecosystem in Mokokchung

The 7th Mokokchung Inter-School Badminton Championship 2026 concluded on April 26, with a message of encouragement for young athletes and a renewed call for greater support to sports development in the district.

Delivering his message as special guest at the closing ceremony, District Civil Supply Officer, Mokokchung, N Jamonger Ao, congratulated all participants from various schools for taking part in the championship.

Emphasizing the spirit of participation, Ao stated that success in sports goes beyond winning titles. “Regardless of the prizes you may have won, I want each one of you to remember this, you are all champions. Your courage to step onto the court, to compete, and to give your best is what truly defines victory,” he said.

He highlighted the importance of a supportive environment in nurturing young talent, noting that a child cannot excel in sports without encouragement from parents, coaches and mentors. He urged stakeholders to continue their efforts in guiding and supporting young players so they can achieve success and develop into responsible individuals.

Praising the organizers, Ao described the Mokokchung District Badminton Association as one of the finest sports bodies in the district. He said the association has contributed immensely to the development of sports and producing players who have competed at higher levels, and congratulated it for successfully conducting the tournament.

Addressing broader challenges, Ao pointed out that the growth of sports in Mokokchung requires stronger backing from stakeholders. “For any sporting event to succeed and for a strong sports ecosystem to thrive, support from various stakeholders, corporates, sponsors, and well-wishers, is essential,” he said, while noting that the district lacks easy access to sponsorship opportunities.

Appealing for collective effort, he called upon individuals, business houses and organizations to extend support in various forms. “I take this opportunity to appeal to individuals, business houses, and organizations to come forward and extend their support, financially, intellectually, and through your valuable time,” he said. “Together, let us build a district that is vibrant, thriving, and full of opportunities for our young sportspersons,” he encouraged.

He concluded by wishing all players success in their future endeavours.
