Kohima, August 3 (MTNews): The annual general meeting-cum-judges seminar of Nagaland Wushu Association (NWA) under the aegis of Nagaland Olympic Association was held at NOA office complex, Kohima on Wednesday.

A total of 10 district representatives attended the general meeting and also confirmed their preparatory camp in their respective districts for the forthcoming Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2022, stated a press release from Nagaland Wushu Association.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Nagaland Wushu Association president Kudecho Khamo said in spite of limited resources, he will give his best to promote Wushu sports in Nagaland and called upon the affiliated districts for suggestions, cooperation and support for the growth of Wushu in the state.

 

He said understanding the challenges and scope of sports for youths of Nagaland, he has taken the responsibility to be the president of Wushu to promote, encourage and professionalize Wushu sports in the state and help the young sportspersons achieve their goals. Adding that Wushu was part of Olympic sporting discipline, the president affirmed that, with the support of NOA, he will try his best so that Nagas are recognized in world of Wushu sports.

 

Wushu sports has lots of potential in the state, he said, adding that the sporting discipline will play in their own category wise which will prove to be a plus point. He also expressed hope for medal prospects in the upcoming Northeast games scheduled at Shillong from October 27 to 4 November.

 

He said Wushu has a prospect to earn one’s livelihood which can generate employment and income and that the Wushu players are in demand in the army (para-military force).

 

He also hoped that under the leadership of CM and president NOA, Neiphiu Rio, the sportspersons can achieve their goals with more support and resources to sporting disciplines in the state.

 

A technical session and briefing for judges was conducted by NIS Wushu coach Gabriel Khamo in the afternoon.

 

Mention be made that the term Wushu is a Chinese term of martial art (Wu – military or martial, shu – art). Wushu has become an international sport under the International Wushu Federation. Wushu is an official event at the Asian Games, Southeast Asian Games, World Combat Games, and in various other multi-sport events.
