Kohima, August 27 (MTNews): The Khulazu Basa Students’ Union Kohima (KBSUK) organised its ‘12th general session and fresher’s meet’ on the theme ‘alternative knowledge for creative solutions’ at the Red Cross building conference hall on Saturday.

Secretariat Assistant at Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Megosano Sakhrie, was the guest speaker of the day. Sakhrie advised students to start building their foundation from now onwards instead of wasting waiting for the right age to come. “Learn to push limits and come out of your comfort zone. One cannot continue doing the old ways and expect changes,” she said.
She also warned students against becoming overly concerned with what others say about them, calling it a “cage for oneself.” She stated that students should start reading with something they like because it is a good exercise for a person to focus and concentrate.
She said that people are conscious to admit “I don’t know” but unless they admit it, they will not learn. If one really wants to achieve something, there should be no excuse, she said and told them to set goals, read more and hone their skills. She also said the exam-focused school system of the state should be stopped but instead should allow students to invest their effort to learn more.
Sakhrie encouraged students to speak and preserve their own dialect. Being a child who struggled to speak her own dialect, she told them to speak and converse in their own dialect as ‘not having the ability to carry our identity is scary’.
While there is nothing wrong with getting influenced by others’ cultures, living like them is not right, she said and cautioned students from emulating their lifestyles and living a life of a floating culture. ‘We should know where we come from’, she added.
As students, one should know how to master social media and not allow it to control them, she said.
Zhovehu Kezo, Village Education Council Chairman, Khulazu Basa, said the duty of a student is to study hard and urged them to put all efforts and hard work into it. Many parents had sent their children to Kohima to study and get the best education, he said, and advised them to know their duty and work hard.
During the program HSLC, HSSLC, and Degree subject distinction holders were felicitated.
