Mokokchung, August 26 (MTNews): In compliance to the directive from the office of the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF), the seven Federating Units of ENSF i.e, Chang Wedoshi Setshang, Konyak Students’ Union, Khiamniungan Students’ Union, Phom Students’ Conference, Tikhir Students’ Union, United Sangtam Students’ Conference and Yimkhiung Akheru Arihako held mass public solidarity rallies at the respective tribal headquarters at Tuensang, Mon, Noklak, Longleng, Kipheri, Shamator and Anatonger (TSU hq) on the backdrop of custodial death of late Henveih Phom who was suspiciously found death under the custody of Assam Police at Sivasagar District Jail, Assam.

 

 

The rally was initiated under the aegis of Eastern Naga Students’ Federation wherein hundreds of students and public from every walk of life participated at the respective rallies holding placards condemning the custodial death and demanding to constitute the Special Investigation Team (SIT) “to probe the perpetrators at the earliest and to bestow befitting punishment as per the law of the land.”

 

In support of the student bodies, “tribal leaders and women organizations too have participated showing solidarity to the bereaved family. During the course of the rally, shops were temporarily closed till the program was over,” ENSF informed in an update.

 

“The program started with a minute of silence as a sign of respect to the deceased and a speech from 7 Federating Units’ presidents expounded the gathering the background of the incident condemning the heinous crime committed by the law enforcing agency of Assam and strongly demanded for judicial proceedings over the incident,” the update further said.
