Mokokchung, August 27 (MTNews): Naga People’s Front (NPF) Chief Whip Dr. Ngangshi K Ao said today that it is now time for the Naga people to speak up on the Naga political issue. He said that Naga people are faced with a dilemma on the Naga political issue as the questions of “sovereignty and integration” have been ruled out from the negotiations. Saying that silence is acquiescence, he asked the people to speak up on what kind of a solution they want. He also said that it is not wise to “ask others to determine your fate.”

Speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of Mokokchung Compound, Ao said that 25 years of negotiations is unreasonable and that there has to be a timeframe for the Naga political solution and that it cannot be allowed to go on infinitely. He added that ‘unsettlement’ of Naga political issues was one of the root causes of all the problems in Nagaland today. He also observed that the Joint Legislators’ Forum on Naga political issue was now rendered pointless.

On his party’s current position, he said that the NPF was formed during the time of ‘political turmoil’ in Nagaland and that, being one of the oldest regional parties in India, NPF would not cease to exist. Admitting that it was going through a difficult phase, Ao however said that NPF was intact and that its prospects would improve. He said that 21 MLAs defecting from the party was unexpected but natural in politics and quipped that “politics is a game played by the scoundrels.” He added that money plays a big role in Nagaland politics but there are also genuine people who will not be influenced by money.
