Running a vegetable stall in a small town could be challenging when fewer people are eager to buy locally farmed products. A similar story is shared by two friends, Vino Kiny and Inali Achumi, who sell local vegetables at Sewak Gate, Mongsenbai ward, Mokokchung.
Vino and Inali informed Mokokchung Times that they started their business in March of this year and have not engaged themselves in any other businesses except operating the modest vegetable stall.
Vino is a resident of Artang ward, while Inali resides in Mongsenbai ward.
According to Vino, their business depends on the number of customers they encounter.
“Our business is less profitable when we have fewer customers,” she said, and added that they dispose of the leftovers for they would not be able to sell anymore, the bane of dealing in perishable items like organic vegetables.
Furthermore, they noted that sales were ‘rarely higher’ than usual.
When asked where they acquire the locally produced food from, Vino replied that they source local supplies from numerous places and sell them here at their makeshift stall. They said that they keep their vegetable stall open till around 4:30 in the evening.
