Mokokchung, October 15 (MTNews): The North East India Welfare Association Chennai (NEIWAC) met the Governor of Tamil Nadu RN Ravi at Raj Bhavan, Chennai on Saturday. An update from NEIWAC received here on Saturday said that the Governor was updated about the demographic profile of the Northeast people in Chennai and its suburbs.

“NEIWAC has requested the Governor to initiate a Centre for the Study of North East India in Chennai and immensely appreciated his positive response,” NEIWAC president Wapangtoshi said in the update. The Governor is said to have also categorically mentioned about the importance of promoting the Northeast culture and literature outside the region and expressed his willingness to support such activities.

 

Meanwhile, a copy of the M.Phil. dissertation on the topic, “A Study on a Migrant Christian Community in a Multi-Religious Society of Chennai with Special Focus on the Naga Christian Fellowship Chennai (NCFC),” a research conducted in 2019 by Wapangtoshi, the President of NEIWAC and the Pastor of NCF Chennai under the supervision of Dr. James Ponniah at the University of Madras was also presented to the Governor during the meeting.

 

The three-member NEIWAC delegation for the meeting comprised of Wapangtoshi (President), Prof. Dr. Pradeep K Sarma (Vice President) and Grace Lalrindiki Pachuau, IAS (General Secretary).
