Mokokchung, October 31 (MTNews): A four-member team of the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) officials visited Tzürangkong on Monday and met the leaders of the Tzürangkong Students’ Conference (TKM) in a show of solidarity and support with the latter who are in the midst of an agitation since October 27 demanding adequate number of teachers to be deployed to all the government schools in Tzürangkong. During the visit, AKM toured the area and visited the schools as well as held a joint meeting with the TKM.
AKM while extending support to TKM stated that their grievances are real and that the concerned department must address the issue raised by TKM immediately. AKM also said that it was astounded to see that villages in Tzürangkong were hiring private teachers to teach the students in the government schools because of shortage of subject teachers.
AKM, supporting the demands of TKM, said that there are some schools in Tzürangkong where the number of teachers are fewer than the number of classrooms whereby it is impossible to conduct regular classes at the same period as one teacher cannot teach in two classrooms at one go. AKM reiterated that at least the basic requirement of an adequate number of teachers should be deployed immediately in the interest of the students.
AKM further said that TKM will continue with the agitation until their demands are fulfilled by the government. All the schools and the EBRC in Tzürangkong will remain closed unless and until the TKM demands are met, AKM informed.
AKM also regretted that the department concerned was yet to communicate with the aggrieved party to listen to their grievances, let alone fulfill their demands.
