Kohima, November 9 (MTNews): Nagaland has sent a contingent of 285 athletes to represent the state in the second ‘North East Olympic Games 2022’, scheduled to be held in Meghalaya from November 10-16.

 

The Nagaland contingent will participate in 17 out of 18 disciplines, including – Archery (30), Athletics (35), Badminton (14), Basketball (30), Boxing (16), Cycling (12), Football (24), Golf (2), Judo (12), Karate (12), Lawn Tennis (12), Shooting (8), Table Tennis (10), Taekwondo (19), Weightlifting (4), Wrestling (15), Wushu (11), Physiotherapist (3), Media Team (4), Officials (12).

 

According to a press release issued by the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), the flag bearers for Nagaland Team are: Tsuchoi T from Noklak district and Zhokhoto Demo from Phek district.

 

Tsuchoi of Noklak district will compete in the 5000M and 10,000M athletics. She also received the Outstanding Sportswomen Award at the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2022 after winning five gold medals in athletics.

 

At the first North East Olympic Games in 2018, she won Gold medals in the 5000m and 10,000m as well as bronze in the 4x100m relay. She also represented Nagaland in the National Games at Gujarat in 2022.

 

Meanwhile, Zhokhoto Demo of Phek district will compete in the Indian Round Archery. He won five gold medals in archery to earn the Outstanding Sportsman Award at the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2022.

 

At the 2019 World Police Game And Fire in Chengdu, China, he also won Gold in 3D Archery, Silver in Bair Bow Bamboo, and Bronze in Field Archery Long Bow (28 rows). He also represented Nagaland in the 2022 National Games in Gujarat.
