Mokokchung, November 18 (MTNews): In the wake of climate change, the District AgroMet Unit (DAMU) under Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa of IMD established at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mokokchung conducted Farmers’ Awareness Program on November 16 and 17, 2022 at Waromung and Nokpu villages under Mangkolemba and Longchem blocks respectively.
Dr. Keviletsü Khate, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Mokokchung in his keynote address emphasized on climate change, weather and its variability, strategic planning and better management of weather and climate risk in agriculture using AgroMet Advisory Services (AAS), informed a press release from DAMU-KVK Mokokchung.
Khate also appraised the farmers to avail the AAS to boost their agricultural production by taking advantage of favorable weather and to minimize the adverse impact of extreme weather events.
It was also informed that DAMU at KVK, Mokokchung particularly renders the AgroMet Advisory Services to the farming community of Mokokchung district via WhatsApp groups, Kisan-Vani Program of All India Radio (AIR) Mokokchung, Kisan Mobile Advisory Services (KMAS) and local dailies Ao Milen and Mokokchung Times.
Hands-on deliberation on AAS of DAMU by Ningshiyangerla Walling, Subject Matter Specialist (Agro-Meteorology) covered weather information related to AgroMet Advisory preparation, dissemination and application in performing agricultural operations and feedback.
MEGHDOOT: a mobile app to assist farmers for weather based farm management was demonstrated aided by folders.
Furthermore, Dr. Keviletsü Khate and Dr. Sarendi Walling, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Veterinary & Animal Husbandry), KVK Mokokchung carried out a Health Camp for livestock. Imnanungsang and T Lanusosang Ao, Village Council Chairman, Waromung and Nokpu village respectively pronounced the vote of thanks. Altogether 61 farmers were put forward for KMAS.
