Kohima, December 14 (MTNews): The e-Naga Summit 2022 under the theme ‘Towards promotion of secured digital services and investment opportunities in the State of Nagaland’ was organized by the Department of Information Technology & Communication in collaboration with Indo-British Business Forum, United Kingdom at the Directorate of IT&C on Wednesday.
Advisor for Information Technology & Communication and New & Renewable Energy, Mmhonlumo Kikon in his inaugural address highlighted that the e-Naga Summits held in the past had people coming from across the world who not only shared their ideas and programs but participated and engaged with the state government to ensure the objectives of the state in creating e-governance and IT culture.
He also mentioned that the theme for the e-Naga Summit 2022 has been designed to address the specific needs of the state and highlighted the progress the state has made in the past 10 years through investment in the road sector. He made mention of the NHIDCL projects where 4-lane roads and projects taken up for road connectivity to state capital Kohima from all districts have resulted in improvement in the rural sector.
He also mentioned that the state government’s vision was to attract investment to the state to engage the people with experts and companies from other parts of the country and collaborate with the state government since the government has confidence in the people. With the achievement in the IT department in the state, it can take up new initiatives, he added.
Kikon also added that in the e-district project, the IT Department has enabled 47 e-services where all the government department websites are hosted on data centres which has made services easy to access online. He also said the Government is focused and clear about priority to use IT services.
CEO, Indo British Business Forum, United Kingdom, Kavita Sharma, while addressing the summit said that Indo British Business Forum is a private firm committed to bringing investments in India and also an opportunity-based firm that looks for opportunities to bring investments in India. She mentioned that the UK Government and the Indian Government have signed a free trade agreement worth 52 billion pounds, where for the first time UK products will enter India without any duty and vice-versa. She also said that the firm was interested to invest in the power sector and renewable energy and would consider climate control. She also said that basic infrastructure was not available in the state and that Nagaland needed investment in roads. She also said there were opportunities for young entrepreneurs and the small and medium industries that need to be addressed.
Principal Secretary of IT & Power, KD Vizo in his address said the department of Information Technology & Communication was created in the year 2004 and the e-Naga Summit was organized in 2015 to promote e-governance culture in the state. He mentioned that initially they tried to create awareness amongst the politicians, the bureaucrats, the entrepreneurs, and businesses and were successful but the youths and the college students were more interested as their response was huge and as Nagaland has the most active youths in social media, it was ready to take up e-governance and IT Sector. He also said IT culture was to bring transparency, accountability, and efficiency and change the mindset of the people about the work culture and society.
