AICC observer Puran Chand Padhi alleges risk of wrongful voter deletions; Apok Jamir cites 14% deletion figure without specifying its source

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has called on party workers to closely monitor the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and verify voters’ names, citing concerns over possible wrongful deletions.

NPCC flags SIR concerns in Nagaland, urges verification of electoral rolls

The appeal was made during a meeting of the Mon District Congress Committee (DCC) held under the party’s “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao” campaign. The meeting was attended by AICC observer Puran Chand Padhi and NPCC working president Apok Jamir.

Padhi alleged that the SIR exercise could be misused to remove genuine voters from electoral rolls.

He accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of overseeing the deletion of legitimate voters and urged Congress workers to carry out constituency-level verification to safeguard voters’ rights.

Jamir also raised concerns over what he described as “vote chori” and claimed that around 14 per cent of votes had been deleted across the country. However, the statement did not specify the source or basis for the figure.

Referring to the revision exercise in Nagaland, Jamir said the process in Mon district appeared to be more systematic than in some other districts, particularly Dimapur. He called on party workers to scrutinise the electoral rolls and report discrepancies.

The NPCC asked its workers to complete their verification by November 20, 2026, as part of the campaign. This is the party’s stated target for its workers; the Election Commission’s revised timeline allows the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections in Nagaland until November 25, with final publication of the electoral roll scheduled for November 30.

The party also stressed the need for unity and discipline among its members while carrying out the exercise.

The meeting concluded with a call to party workers to remain vigilant and work to ensure that eligible voters are not excluded from the electoral rolls.
