The seven day long 39th Sports Meet & 2nd Edition Naga Wrestling Championship 2023 of the Sekrüzu Area Sports Association (SASA) concluded on Tuesday here in Sekrüzu HQ under Phek district with the motto “Fraternity Towards Progress”
Eight villages including one town that comes under SASA – Dzülha, Thürütsüswu, Khütsa, Phühgi, Rüzazho, New Rüzazho, Suthozu Old, Suthozu New and Sekrüzu Town took part in the meet.The tournament was hosted by Phühgi Youth Welfare Union.
In the men’s football final, Thürütsüswü village defeated Khütsa village by a solitary goal to emerge as the champions of the football trophy. The lone goal for Thürütsüswü was scored by Bizoto Swüro in the first half that prove to be decisive in the match.
Nagaland Wushu President Küdecho Khamo
graced the occasion the guest of honour for the closing function.Khamo in his address urged the sportspersons to be committed and disciplined to excel in their sporting career. While observing that most of the Nagaland athletes that bagged medals in recently Northeast Olympics are mostly from individual disciplines. He asked the gathering to choose one discipline so that they can excel further. While impressed them to make the best use of talents and in return, he said they will achieve success in future.
He further lauded the organisers for taking all the initiatives for the success of the meet. He appreciated the participants for playing with the spirit of sportmanship and encouraged the winners who will be representing the SASA in the upcoming PDSA meet.
He also took an example of Mrs. Cekrovolü Swüro, National and International player in Archery to encourage the players to be more professionalism.
Stating that the state government is serious about promotion games and sports, he pointed that NOA under his leadership have given platform and opportunities for sportsperson to shine at the state level and medals awardees were also given cash awards for the Northeast Olympics.
To make sports a profession, he reminded them not to be seasonal players but to think of their future. He challenge the youths it is time for them to decide what they want to do in their career.
As a politician, he also expressed his desire to work for the youths and betterment of the community at large. Citing that the area needed change for overall development, he also the seeks blessing and support of the people so that he can represent the constituency.
Khamo assured that he will give his best to develop the area to improve the living standard of the area if given chance. In this regard, he called upon for unity to work together for change and development.
While expressing his confidence that Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio will continue his tenure even in the next upcoming general election, he asked the gathering to give their unflinching support to his government as a whole so that the district can also expect overall development.
