Tinsukia (Assam), February 16 (MTNews): Rhitsho Mero struck twice as Vanguard FC, Tseminyu outclassed Railways FC 5-0 in the 18th Captain Jintu Gogoi Vir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament 2023 at TDSA Stadium, Tinsukia, Assam on Thursday.

 

 

Vanguard FC making their debut in the national tournament have made an immediate impact scoring five goals in the process and will be hoping that that team will carry the same momentum in the next matches.

 

In the match, Vanguard FC scored three quick goals early in the first half with Captain Yhunshalo Kemp scoring a goal and a brace by Vice Captain Rhitsho Mero, thereby gaining the foothold and dominated the game through and through.

 

In the second half, Sinlo Kent converted a beautiful free-kick while Hanglen Chang came from the bench to score a stunning goal to make it 5-0 at the end of the final whistle.
The team progresses into the next round with this win and will play against Assam Rifles Sentinels XI tomorrow in the same venue at 3:00 PM.

 

The ongoing tournament is an invitational tournament organized by the Indian Army and OIL in honour of Kargil Hero Captain Jintu Gogoi. A total of 24 teams from 8 states are participating in the tournament.

 

Ating Tingnyek Konyak, making his first assignment as the coach of the team, will be very proud of the results today. A comprehensive victory in the game against another state will surely be a morale booster as he continues to hone his skill in the coaching department.
