Cabinet Sub-Committee to discuss Federation’s ultimatum on October 12

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has accused the Nagaland government of failing to act on its demand for the termination of 109 appointments across 16 departments that it has termed “backdoor appointments”.

The Federation said its demand was first submitted to the State Government through a representation dated April 10, 2025, followed by an ultimatum dated March 20, 2026.

According to the NSF, it had given the government additional time even after the expiry of the ultimatum, considering the procedural requirements involved in any termination. However, it alleged that the government had yet to take decisive action on the matter.

The NSF said it has now received a circular convening a meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Temporary PIMS on October 12 to discuss the ultimatum.

The meeting is scheduled to be attended by the Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home & Border Affairs, four Cabinet Ministers, two Advisors, the Chief Secretary and the Home Commissioner (P&AR in charge), according to the Federation.

The NSF reiterated that “restoration of meritocracy and transparency” should guide the government’s decision and demanded the termination of the appointments in question.

The Federation also appealed to appointees who are aware of irregularities in their appointments to voluntarily step down, arguing that the issue affects thousands of Naga youths seeking opportunities in government employment through fair and open competition.

The NSF warned that it would intensify its democratic forms of protest if the proposed Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting fails to satisfactorily address its demands.

The Federation has called for public support in its campaign against what it described as a flawed system of recruitment and in favour of greater transparency and merit-based appointments.

The October 12 meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the government to consider the NSF’s ultimatum. The NSF’s statement, however, does not indicate that any decision has been taken to terminate the 109 appointments.
