“My faith in the secular idea of India cannot be shaken. I will continue to work for the present and future generations to enjoy freedom of faith and hope,” he said in a press release.

Explaining about his resignation, Therie said he pushed the papers in honor of the “people’s verdict” and that the resignation was pending due to the announcement of ULB elections.

“However, in view of the cancellation notice issued by the State Election Commissioner on 30/03/2023, there is no reason to delay,” he said.

“I have enjoyed serving the people through the platform of the Congress party for almost 8 years. I am thankful for the support and cooperation from all over the state, especially from the Congress ranks and files while not forgetting all the well-wishers. I am grateful to the media friends for they were my strength,” he added.

He thanked Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Party president Mallikarjun Kharge for their trust and support and extended his gratitude to the Congress party for their support.

He expressed happiness over appointing S Supongmeren Jamir as his successor, adding that he has worked with him closely.

“I know him as a down to earth leader far from ego. He has gained experience in the functioning of Congress and in Governing. He is another person tested in fire and water. He was elected to the State Assembly and thus knows victory as well as defeat. I believe he will be more affable. I wish him all the best,” he concluded.

Election in Nagaland is auction of votes

Therie in his press release alleged that election in Nagaland is not a democratic election but is an “auction of votes and playing with proxy votes” and admitted that he misled himself by trusting that people will vote on the demand for implementation of agreed political solutions, restoration of governance and infrastructure development.

“In most of the issues Congress has raised, appreciation was won from many elite leaders and the intelligentsia. However, the economically poor multitude’s consideration was money and ruling power,” he observed.

“It is more shocking to note that people who were protesting in the streets against the Government have worked hardest for the ruling Government they oppose,” Therie lamented. He also said that he has not heard about any Presiding Officer or Polling Officer stopping proxy voters.
