Khensa, 5 June (MTNews): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Ongpangkong South Block conducted a training program on “Practice of Crop Diversification” at Khensa Village today. The program aimed to educate farmers about the importance of crop diversification and how it can generate higher income through the adoption of new approaches and methodologies in agricultural production. Bendangkumzuk BTM served as the resource person for the training.

The resource person emphasized the significance of crop diversification in agricultural practices. He highlighted the different types of crop diversification and how they can generate higher income by adopting new approaches and methodology in agricultural production. He encouraged the farmers to adopt new approaches and methodologies in their agricultural production.

 

One of the key approaches discussed was crop pattern and intensification where he encouraged the farmers to go for mixed cropping, intercropping and crop rotation. He explained that these methods not only help in maximizing land utilization but also contribute to better pest control and improved soil fertility. The resource person also highlighted the importance of cultivating consumer-demand crops and recommended the inclusion of leguminous crops such as soybean, peas, lentils, French beans, and long beans. These crops, being nitrogen-fixing, help reduce the dependency on external fertilizers.

 

In addition, Bendangkumzuk emphasized the importance of integrating animal husbandry farming with crop production to enhance income generation.

 

The training ended with discussion and interaction sessions followed by distribution of seeds ( Soyabean, pole beans, okra, sponge gourd, tomato, coriander, long yard beans) and neem oil. Altogether 30 farmers attended the program along with ATMA staff.
