Dimapur, 31 July (MTNews): With the onset of monsoon season, Dimapur is experiencing a surge in Dengue cases, prompting authorities to take immediate action to control the outbreak. Dr Neisakho Kere, the State Program Officer of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP) in Nagaland, issued a press release highlighting the concerning situation.

According to Dr Kere, the Urban Vector Borne Disease Scheme staff based in Dimapur is actively carrying out disease control activities in all 100 colonies of the city. Despite their efforts, the vector indices have failed to decrease below the outbreak indication level. He said the mosquito larvae are still found abundantly in and around houses in various colonies, particularly at Nagarjan colony, where Dengue cases are detected every now and then.

In response to the escalating situation, he informed that fogging operations to eliminate the infected Aedes mosquitoes and other vectors are being conducted regularly. Dr Kere stressed the need for collective efforts from the community to combat the spread of Dengue. He called upon every colony and village in the region to actively participate in preventive measures, such as removing any materials in and around households where water may collect and covering water storages.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Dr Kere informed that the entire month of July was observed as Anti-dengue month by the NVBDCP under the State Health and Family Welfare Department. During this period, various activities were undertaken to control and prevent the spread of Dengue.

Dr Kere reassured the public that the NVBDCP remains committed to working relentlessly for the prevention and control of Dengue in Dimapur and beyond. He urged all residents to be vigilant and proactive in supporting the ongoing efforts by the health authorities.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that can lead to severe complications and, in some cases, prove fatal. Preventive measures, such as removing stagnant water and ensuring mosquito breeding sites are eliminated, play a crucial role in containing the outbreak.
