Mokokchung, February 14 (MTNews): Leaders of the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) inspected the ongoing construction works along the National Highway that pass through the heart of Mokokchung town, starting from 147 Kms (Sewak Gate) to 156 Kms (DEF) today. Finding the workmanship to be not satisfactory, OKM submitted a letter of “Grievances on Inferior Workmanship” to the department concerned, a copy of which was also endorsed to the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, as well as the contractors, M/S Trident Enterprises.
In the letter of grievances addressed to the Executive Engineer, National Highways, Mokokchung Division, OKM said that the current ongoing work was of a sub-standard quality. “At some of the sites there are already potholes and cracks appearing even before the work is completed and this kind of inferior workmanship is unacceptable and is highly condemned,” OKM said. OKM also demanded that the ongoing repairing works should be completed on time as specified in the DPR (Detailed Project Report) without compromising on workmanship. “No final payment should be made to the contractor unless a joint verification is done and to the satisfaction of all the concerned parties,” OKM further said. It was also reminded that OKM had, earlier in May, 2021, requested the department to “ensure quality works on the ongoing special repair on NH 61, starting from 147 Km to 156 Km, under National Highways, Mokokchung Division.”
OKM further said, “In the interest of the people and for the proper utilization of development funds, we rest our hope on you that you will do the needful at the earliest.” It is also iterated that “we reserve our rights to our own course of action if our prayers go unheeded.”
Meanwhile, OKM expressed their appreciation to the All Ward Union of Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) authorities for volunteering to ensure smooth flow of traffic, which they said, has made the road repairing more efficient.
