Mokokchung, 30 August (MTNews): The Khelo India Asmita Women’s League 3X3 Basketball Dimapur Leg got underway today at the JV Foundation Basket Court, Signal, Dimapur with Vitoto Chishi, former state player gracing the inauguration of the event as Special Guest.
The Asmita Women’s League is a program under Khelo India to promote sports among women in India. In association with Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Basketball Federation of India (BFI), the league aims to increase the participation of women in sports by organizing various leagues, to utilize the leagues as a platform for identification of new talents, evaluation of existing Khelo India athletes, and to provide competition exposure to women athletes of different age categories across the country.
In the inaugural match, All Blacks (Kohima) trounced Elite-A (Dimapur) 16 – 2 in regulation time. Reena of All Blacks scored 7 points. The second match saw Elite-B (Dimapur) easily defeat Splendid (Jalukie) 9 – 1. In the third match of Round-1, Orca’s Sosen scored 4 points to lead Orca (Kohima) in a close win against TMB (Kohima) by a solitary point, 8-7.
The Dimapur Leg of 3×3 basketball tournament is part of a 50-cities program overseen by the BFI and its associate members across India. Dimapur city league is organized by Dimapur District Basketball Association in collaboration with Nagaland Basketball Association.
