Mokokchung, 27 October (MTNews): An NCC Shooting practice week is currently underway at the CRPF Range in Mokokchung. Today, 60 NCC cadets from schools and colleges in Mokokchung town had the opportunity to practice their rifle shooting skills with 0.22 Sporting Rifles.
The event is organized as part of the ‘Weapons Training’ curriculum, which includes theory and dry practices taught in institutions under the guidance of the Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) and the Permanent Instructor Staff (PI Staff) of the 25 Naga Bn NCC. The actual shooting with live ammunition (practicals) is periodically organized in the Shooting Range, with experts guiding the cadets about the nuances of shooting. Both boys and girls have shown immense interest in learning this unique skill.
Speaking about the training provided to the NCC cadets, Col CST Swamy, Commanding Officer of 25 Naga Bn NCC, mentioned that they aim to develop the cadets in various aspects, including instilling discipline, cohabitation in camps, physical fitness, public speaking skills, and cultural activities. This development prepares the cadets to become successful and patriotic citizens of the country.
Col Swamy also said that the NCC also grooms the cadets to successfully pass entrance exams and interviews for uniformed services, particularly in the Army as Officers and Agniveers. “Both the Central Government and the Nagaland State Government provide extra weightage to NCC cadets in their entrance exams,” he said, adding, NCC training serves as a stepping stone for students aspiring to secure well-paid jobs in the government and civilian sectors.
The arrangements for the shooting practice are managed by a team from the 25 Naga Bn NCC, led by Lt Col Siddharth Upadhyay and First Officer Temjen. The firing range is made available by the 173 Bn CRPF, and Technical and Medical Support is provided by the 12 Assam Rifles. The Commanding Officer expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Commandants of the 12 Assam Rifles and the 173 Bn CRPF for their support.
