Mokokchung, 19 December (MTNews): The 2nd TM Wati Volleyball Trophy 2023, organized by the Rising Star Sporting Club, commenced today at Jungli Arjuma, Mokokchung Village. The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, with Advisor for Sericulture & Minority Affairs, Imkongmar, gracing the event as the guest of honor.
Addressing the crowd during his inaugural speech, Advisor Imkongmar emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for aspiring athletes. He underscored the need for players to steer clear of intoxicating substances, stating that it is a fundamental requirement for those aspiring to be exceptional players.
“Play in such a way that you become a professional player and will be recognized by the people,” remarked the advisor, motivating the budding talents present at the event.
The Riongsanger Village Council, during an exhortation, encouraged the youth participants to set lofty aspirations and strive to become professional athletes. The council also emphasized the significance of steering clear of intoxicating substances for a successful and fulfilling sports career.
The tournament’s opening matches unfolded with great excitement. The Rising Star Sporting Club (RSSC) and Kumlong Sports Association took the court in the first match, where Kumlong secured victory by defeating RSSC in a thrilling contest with scores of 25-16 in set 1 and 20-25 in set 2.
The second match featured an intense battle between Raven Sporting Club and Kijong Lanu. Raven emerged victorious, winning both sets with scores of 25-23 and 25-22.
The third match witnessed a clash between the defending champions, Anentzubo Sporting Club, and Rising Star Sporting Club. The defending champions lived up to their title, securing victory with scores of 25-12 and 25-23.
Closing the day’s action, the match between SHIPU and Soyim Volleyball Association saw SHIPU dominating with an unchallenging performance from Soyim Volleyball Association, emerging victorious in two sets with scores of 25-10 and 25-19.
