Kohima, 20 February (MTNews): A five-day Training of Trainers (ToTs) on the Expanded Package of Services under Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) is set to commence on the 20th of February 2024.

Welcoming Community Health Officers (CHOs) from across the state, Dr E Motsuthung Patton, Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), emphasized that CHOs play a vital role in delivering health services to everyone’s doorstep in the village and serve as the backbone of the Health & Wellness Centers in the state. Dr Patton also encouraged them to be sincere and regular in performing their duties towards improving the health indicators in our State.

Dr Manyau Phom, Deputy Director of NHM, provided an insightful overview of Comprehensive Primary Health Care through Health & Wellness Centers, highlighting the focus on Preventive, Promotive, Curative, Rehabilitative & Palliative Healthcare. This aligns with the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, with a specific emphasis on the role of CHOs and Frontline Health Workers (FLWs) as the initial point of contact in the health delivery system.

Dr Vizokholo, State TB Officer from the National TB Elimination Program (NTEP), acknowledged the commendable services provided by CHOs in delivering Comprehensive Primary Healthcare through Health & Wellness Centers in villages. She anticipates that the five-day training will enhance their understanding of TB-related activities, facilitating their participation in TB Elimination efforts and ensuring a Continuum of Care.

This intensive five-day training will comprehensively cover the 12 expanded packages of services to be provided through Health & Wellness Centers, encompassing Reproductive & Child Health, Family Planning, Adolescent Health, Oral Health, Eye Care, ENT, Emergency Care, Mental Health, Elderly Care, Palliative Care Services, Food Safety, and Non-Communicable Diseases.

Following the ToTs, CHOs will play a pivotal role in training Staff Nurses and Frontline Workers, such as ANMs and ASHAs. The training is meticulously organized at the conference hall of the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima.
