The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed concern over the devastation caused by floods in Tizit Town, Tizit Village and Lapalampong Village in Mon district, and urged the state government to immediately step up relief and rehabilitation efforts.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the NPCC’s Communication Department said the floods had caused extensive damage to homes, schools, hostels, shops, tea gardens, agricultural land and livestock, leaving hundreds of families affected.
Citing reports from the affected areas, the party claimed that nearly 800 households in Tizit Town alone had been impacted by the floods.
The NPCC further alleged that despite the scale of the disaster, adequate relief had not yet reached the affected people. It said the immediate priority should be to provide shelter, food, safe drinking water, medicines, clothing and restore essential services.
The party appealed to the Government of Nagaland, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and other concerned agencies to undertake comprehensive relief and rehabilitation measures without delay. It also urged the Central Government to extend all possible assistance to support affected families in rebuilding their lives.
Expressing solidarity with those affected, the NPCC conveyed its condolences to families who suffered losses and prayed for the safety and recovery of the affected communities.
The party also appealed to civil society organisations, churches, non-governmental organisations, businesses and the public to contribute relief materials, financial assistance and voluntary service to support the ongoing relief efforts.
