For more than 15 years, Imotoshi Imchen has rendered the subtle details of mountains and greeneries, portraits of men, women and children and his thought provoking abstract paintings using his charcoal, graphite and mechanical pencils, colors and paint brushes as his tools.
Hailing from Longkhum village, a resident of Kumlong Ward, Toshi makes his living as an artist through his art gallery ‘PeopleS’ Art’ and as a graphic designer at Longpok Offset Press, an occupation he cultivated while trying to improve his art.
But his fascination for art began through the usual and simple things that all kids enjoy- pictures on textbooks! Having drawn inspiration from pictures and paintings printed on textbooks and old books at home, Toshi began a journey of self-dedication, patience and a lot of practice to master his craft as an artist.
“As a child, I always used to get amazed by those artists whose works I used to see in books. There’s always just something wonderful and intriguing about their designs, the sculptures, their artistic feels and such magnificent artistry. That really is what got me into art in the first place,” he said.
Speaking about ‘PeopleS’ Art’, he explained that “It’s all about you” is its motto and he hopes to fulfill his client’s satisfaction and that is where he finds his happiness.
According to him, the greatest impact made on him by his artwork was of him becoming a graphic designer.
“Because I loved artwork, I wanted to learn more; so I tried giving myself a chance with graphic designing. I thought, perhaps, I could learn to play with words arrangement, image editing, create and develop things beyond my imagination and then, it surprisingly worked out great for me,” he expressed happily.
Talking about his business, he shared that he keeps investing to stabilize his artworks although he doesn’t monetize on his art sometimes.
“The things I really wish to do are promoting art and culture, and connecting with other artists through my skills and designs. I also want to reach out and help people and at the same time have my work recognized as well,” he said.
Toshi currently does various kinds of Artwork such as Oil Painting or Acrylic Painting of portrait, landscape or abstract painting.
“Sharing stories, ideas and other inspirations with one another can change the world through art,” he concluded.
