Patton’s suggestion that only certain individuals, including the council chairman, gaonbura, and polling agents, should participate in voting while others attend to agricultural duties has ignited a firestorm of controversy.
The remarks swiftly drew condemnation from the Congress party, which accused Patton of violating the Model Code of Conduct. In response to the backlash, Patton has moved to clarify his comments, attributing them to an “ill-advised attempt at humor” made in the heat of the campaign trail.
