Kohima, 22 April (MTNews): A child trapped in a drain in the Old NST area of Kohima town was rescued after an operation that spanned over an hour. The successful rescue was made possible by the combined efforts of the Fire & Emergency Services, Kohima Police, and the State Disaster Response Force.

The child, a non-Naga resident of Daklane, was accidentally trapped under a concrete slab-covered drainage ditch. Fortunately, the child was rescued unharmed. The rescue teams drilled open the concrete slab to free the boy, who was then transported to KOHIMAS hospital by ambulance and later shifted to the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK).

Sources said that the Fire & Emergency Services first received a ‘special service call,’ and a crew was deployed accordingly. However, due to a lack of machinery and equipment, the SDRF was contacted for assistance.

Meanwhile, the Kohima Police posted on its official X platform: “On 22/04/2024, in the early hours at around 0730 hrs, a child was trapped inside a drainage at the Old NST area in Kohima. Later, the child was rescued by a combined team of Kohima Police, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, and KOHIMAS Hospital.”
