The ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR-NRC Mithun) hosted a three-day training program from July 24-26, 2024, aimed at enhancing the skills of 20 Mithun farmers (10 women and 10 men) from Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh. This program, under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), focused on imparting modern scientific practices in Mithun husbandry.
The inaugural session featured Dr Girish Patil S, the Director of ICAR-NRC Mithun, who addressed the challenges in Mithun farming and emphasized the need for adopting advanced technologies to improve productivity. The training included both theoretical lectures and practical sessions on topics such as the care and management of Mithun, disease control, feeding management, and the development of value-added products from Mithun meat and milk.
Experts including Dr L S Devi, Dr Plabita Goswami, Dr N Haque, and Dr C Ramakrishnan led these sessions, providing both knowledge and hands-on experience. The program concluded with a valedictory ceremony and certificate distribution, marking a significant step towards empowering farmers with scientific farming techniques.
The training program was effectively coordinated by a dedicated team of scientists, including Dr Narendra VN, Dr Harshit Kumar, Dr Plabita Goswami, Dr Yallappa M Somagond, and Dr Kobu Khate.
