In response to heightened water levels at the Doyang Reservoir due to continuous rainfall in its catchment area, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Wokha, Vineet Kumar, has issued a public advisory. The advisory warns of an imminent controlled water release from the Doyang Dam to mitigate potential flooding risks.

Recent incessant rainfall in the catchment area has caused a significant rise in the water level of the reservoir. If the current inflow trend continues, the reservoir is expected to reach its Full Reservoir Level.

To manage the excess water, the radial gates of the Doyang Dam will be opened in a controlled manner. As a result, excess water will spill over and flow through the Doyang River downstream of the Doyang Power House.

In light of this development, the public have been advised to stay clear of the downstream areas of the Doyang River and the foothill regions. The Deputy Commissioner has urged residents to avoid activities such as bathing, swimming, fishing, camping, and any other riverside activities during the period when the radial gates are opened.

The public’s cooperation is requested to ensure safety during this period of increased water flow.
