The Bendanglen Alir Saring Lanur Tejongjem (BASLT) condemned the “heinous and barbaric” act committed by Moakaba Aier, Son of Karlijang Aier, a resident of Akumen (Lirmen) village under Longchem block, Mokokchung district. The incident, which took place on August 10, 2024, in Saringyim, Nokpu-B village, has sparked widespread outrage within the community.

In a statement released by BASLT, the association expressed deep anguish over the crime, particularly in light of the ongoing challenges faced by the public due to excessive taxation by various factions. BASLT described the act as both “heinous and disgraceful,” especially as it was allegedly committed by an individual who is a national worker.

BASLT called upon the authorities to treat the case as ‘rarest of the rare’ and to expedite the judicial process to ensure swift and fair justice.

“We urge that Moakaba Aier be denied bail until justice is fully served, as any delay or leniency in this matter could lead to further unrest. We emphasize that the concerned authorities will be held accountable for any adverse outcomes if justice is not promptly delivered,” the BASLT added.

The BASLT has further appealed to citizens to condemn the crime and rally in support of the victim and their family. BASLT stressed the importance of unity in ensuring that justice is served and that such acts of violence are met with the strongest possible response.
