The Asetkong Kaketshir Telungjem Mungdang (AKTM) on Monday inaugurated a two-day Skill Development Programme on Self-Sustenance at Kobulong EAC headquarters, aiming to promote youth self-reliance through practical skills, entrepreneurship and the preservation of traditional knowledge.

Held under the theme “Pei Ketmung ajanga litetba shishashir,” the program has drawn more than 60 youths and will conclude on October 20.
AKTM president Bendangkumzuk said the initiative was organised in accordance with a resolution adopted at the organisation’s 43rd general conference. He said the programme seeks to equip young people with practical skills and encourage them to explore self-employment opportunities by utilising locally available resources and community knowledge.
Participants are receiving training in basket making, preparation of Amzu, a traditional sticky-rice biscuit, tapioca bhujia production and banana chips processing.
The AKTM Women Coordinator said special emphasis had been placed on Amzu, a traditional delicacy passed down through generations that is gradually disappearing. The initiative aims to preserve the culinary heritage while exploring its potential as a marketable local product.
In addition to traditional crafts and food processing, participants are learning marketing, photography and video editing to help them promote their products and reach wider markets through digital platforms. Local resource persons are sharing indigenous knowledge and practical expertise during the sessions.
The second day of the program will include training in shiitake mushroom cultivation, along with sessions on business planning, product promotion and establishing marketing linkages through online and offline platforms.
AKTM said the initiative aims to encourage entrepreneurship, preserve traditional skills and enable young people to develop sustainable livelihood opportunities through self-reliance.
