Nagaland emerged as champions once again in the thrilling final of the 2nd NECDC Senior Men’s Interstate Friendship Tournament 2024, defeating Manipur by 27 runs via the DLS method. The match was called off by the on-field umpires due to bad light with 4 overs left to play, sealing Nagaland’s victory in a rain-affected encounter.

Nagaland defeated Manipur by 27 runs to win the 2nd NECDC Senior Men’s Interstate Friendship Tournament 2024 on 28 September at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima.

The match, initially slated for 50 overs, faced interruptions due to rain, which saw the game reduced to 36 overs. Due to deteriorating light conditions, the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method was employed, further shortening the play to 32.1 overs, with a revised target set at 193 runs.

Nagaland posted a solid total of 250/7 in their 50 overs, with Hokaito Zhimomi anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 96 runs* off 78 balls, earning him the man of the match award. Afzal Hussain Choudhury contributed a steady 73 off 110 balls.

Manipur was set a revised target of 193 runs in 32.1 overs after rain interruptions. Despite their best efforts, they ended at 165/8 when the match was called off due to bad light, falling short of the target by 27 runs.

Lamabam Ajay Singh was the pick of the bowlers for Manipur, taking 3/36 in his 10 overs, while Langlonyamba Singh M top-scored with 43 off 39 balls for Manipur.

Imliwati Meren Lemtur from Nagaland played a key role with the ball, taking 2/24 in 8 overs.

The Prize Distribution Ceremony was graced by KT Sukhalu, IAS (Rtd.), MLA and Patron of the Nagaland Cricket Association, who presented the championship trophy to the Nagaland team. The closing ceremony also featured a special musical performance by Naga artist Moko Koza, making the event even more memorable.
