In a joint operation carried out by the 43 Assam Rifles and police representatives from the Sub-Urban Police Station, Dimapur, four individuals believed to be linked to the NSCN (K-YA) faction were apprehended on charges of involvement in unlawful activities, including extortion and kidnapping, stated an FIR lodged by 43 AR in East Police Station, Dimapur.

The operation, which commenced early on September 27 following intelligence inputs regarding the movement of armed NSCN (K-YA) cadres, intercepted a suspected individual at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) below the flyover near Dimapur Railway Station at around 7:00 am. The individual, identified as Nyemphoa Wangnao, was traveling from Dimapur to Mon by train. Upon questioning, Wangnao disclosed that he was traveling with another NSCN (K-YA) cadre, SS Lt Col. Botai Wangsu.

Shortly afterward, at around 7:15 am, the operation team apprehended three more individuals from the taxi parking area near the railway station. These included SS Lt. Col. Botai Wangsu, another cadre named Tangao Konyak, and a woman, Phamsa Wangsu, who was identified as the wife of SS Lt. Col. Wangsu. Upon interrogation, all four admitted to being members of the NSCN (K-YA).

SS Lt Col. Botai Wangsu is a known figure in the NSCN (K-YA) and is reportedly wanted for his involvement in several extortion and kidnapping cases. Authorities suspect he had traveled to Dimapur to establish an extortion network. Tangao Konyak, another suspect, is believed to have provided shelter to Wangsu at his residence in Nagarjan, Dimapur.

The apprehended individuals mentioned in the FIR were: SS Lt. Col. Botai Wangsu (52):  Resident of Longkhaw, Longding district, Arunachal Pradesh; wanted for extortion and kidnapping; Tangao Konyak (34):  Resident of Pukha village, Mon district, Nagaland; suspected of aiding Wangsu in setting up an extortion network; Nyemphoa Wangnao (28): Resident of Neitong village, Mon district, Nagaland; and Phamsa Wangsu (49): Resident of Longthao village, Longding district, Arunachal Pradesh; wife of SS Lt Col Botai Wangsu.

TASU clarifies on arrest of Neitong Students’ Union president in Dimapur
The Tizit Area Students’ Union (TASU) has issued a clarification following the arrest of Nyemphoa Konyak, President of the Neitong Village Students’ Union, by the Assam Rifles at Dimapur Railway Station on September 27. Konyak was apprehended alongside suspected cadres of the NSCN (K-YA) faction during a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Dimapur police.

In their statement, TASU stated that Nyemphoa Konyak is an active member of the students’ community and currently serves as the President of the Neitong Students’ Union under the TASU banner. The union described him as a person of good moral character who is actively involved in working for the welfare of the student community and participating in TASU activities.
