A workshop on the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) took place at Angh House, Agri Expo, Chumoukedima, Nagaland, focusing on the benefits and opportunities offered by the AIF scheme, particularly for the North East region.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Samuel Praveen Kumar, emphasized the pivotal role of the AIF in modernizing agricultural infrastructure nationwide. Kumar underscored the scheme’s potential to revolutionize production and enhance farmers’ profitability. He outlined its advantages, including a 3% interest subvention on loans up to ‘2 crore and flexible repayment terms. Projects eligible under the scheme encompass post-harvest management, polyhouses, and logistics facilities.

Kumar also highlighted the significance of technological advancements such as precision farming, artificial intelligence, and smart irrigation systems in empowering farmers. These innovations, he explained, facilitate higher productivity, cost reduction, and sustainable practices. The government, he assured, is committed to investing in these technologies to secure a prosperous future for agriculture that harmonizes profitability with sustainability.

Acknowledging the unique challenges of the North East, such as rugged terrain and remote communities, Kumar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing financial and technical support to bolster farmers’ livelihoods. He assured attendees that rural development, healthcare, and education remain top governmental priorities to enhance living standards in Nagaland. Additionally, efforts will focus on integrating Nagaland’s distinctive crops and resources into both domestic and global markets.

The workshop included presentations by the AIF team, spotlighting initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural infrastructure specifically in the North East. Discussions centered on projects like cold storage facilities, warehouses, and processing units—critical for augmenting productivity and market access for local farmers. The team also highlighted tailored financing options and strategies designed to address the region’s unique agricultural challenges.

Deputy General Manager of NABARD, O. P. Mounglang, addressed the audience, underscoring both the opportunities and challenges associated with implementing the AIF scheme. He emphasized its potential to significantly boost the agricultural sector through comprehensive infrastructure development.

The event began with a welcome address by Agriculture Production Commissioner of Nagaland, Wezope Kenye, and was chaired by Joint Secretary of the Agriculture Department, Limanenla. It concluded with an inaugural session that included a Q&A segment, providing participants with the opportunity to delve deeper into the scheme’s implementation specifics.
