Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Zunheboto, Nagaland University, and ATMA Zunheboto on December 6, organized a day-long program at V K Town in Zunheboto district as part of the Krishi Samridhi Swarna Week celebrations.
The event was inaugurated by Vikaho Chopi, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Zunheboto, who welcomed the participants and provided an overview of the programme’s objectives. Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist and Head of KVK Zunheboto, delivered a training session on poultry farming, urging farmers to adopt improved farming practices and new poultry breeds to increase the productivity and profitability of local birds.
A significant part of the program was the Farmers-Scientists Interaction, where farmers had the opportunity to interact with subject specialists. Dr Chaurasia, Dr Visakho Shunyu, CTO (Agr./PB&G), and Chopi were present to address the farmers’ concerns on various topics including disease and feeding management for pigs and poultry, insect and pest infestation in crops, and soil management.
In addition, manuals and informational folders on crop management and disease control were distributed to the farmers. An animal health camp was also organized, where farmers raised concerns about the poor growth of poultry and pigs, worm infestations, and diarrhoea in poultry birds, which they identified as major causes of mortality.
A total of 54 farmers from V K Town and surrounding villages attended the event, benefiting from free medicines, including anthelminthics, antibiotics, liver tonics, and vitamins, aimed at addressing the health issues of their livestock.
