The Nagaland tug-of-war team bagged silver at the 37th Senior National Tug-of-War Championships held in Maharashtra.

The Nagaland team lost to the Punjab state team in the grand finale of the Men’s Senior (Catch Weight category).

The Nagaland team consisted of Menuosetuo Yiese, Vechita Khesoh, Vemele Thingo, Sedevizo Keretsii, Vekuzo Vezuh, Heuci Kulim, Rukukhotho Khusoh, Neikhozo, Toino Awomi, and Thepukhoyi Swuro.

During the league matches, Nagaland defeated Haryana in the first match, Telangana in the second, Himachal Pradesh in the third, and Punjab Power in the fourth match.

The team was led by Nagaland Tug-of-War Association president Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro and general secretary Chikhozo Sapu.

Dr. Er. Swuro expressed gratitude to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for sponsoring the Nagaland team. He also thanked the 13th Assam Rifles for providing technical assistance and extended his appreciation to Thejangulie Rio and others who supported the team.

A total of 50 teams from 21 states participated in the championship, held from January 5 to 8. The event was organized by the Tug-of-War Federation of India, affiliated with the Tug-of-War International Federation, South Africa.

Meanwhile, Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro announced that eight players from Nagaland have been provisionally selected for the upcoming World Cup Competition (Tug-of-War) to be held in South Africa in June 2025. They will attend further selection trials, he added.

The Nagaland team is scheduled to return to the state on January 10.
