The ongoing ten-day ICSSR-sponsored workshop on Research Methodology for Social Science Ph.D. and PDF scholars, organized by the Department of Management and Department of Education at Nagaland University, has seen an overwhelming response from across the country. The workshop, held from February 19-28, 2025, at the Kohima campus, has attracted more than 470 applications from scholars in various universities and IIITs across India. However, as per the norms and reservation policies set by ICSSR, only 30 participants were selected to take part in this event.
The workshop aims to provide advanced research training to scholars in the field of social sciences. Prominent resource persons from nationally recognized institutions will deliver lectures, equipping participants with essential research tools and methodologies.
At the inaugural ceremony held on February 19, 2025, at Nagaland University, Kohima campus, Prof KD Singh, Head of the Department of Management, welcomed the attendees, while Course Co-Director Dr M Rajendra Nath Babu shared insights into the workshop’s history and impact. He noted that previous workshops have helped participants secure academic placements in universities and colleges across India, emphasizing the long-term value of such programs.
The selection process for the workshop was highly competitive, with over 470 applications vying for the limited spots. Dr Babu remarked that despite the overwhelming demand, only 30 applicants could be accommodated, showcasing the workshop’s highly selective nature.
Chief Guest Prof GT Thong, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, highlighted the importance of research aptitude for emerging social science scholars. In his address, Prof. Thong encouraged the participants to strengthen their research skills by mastering various methodologies, ethical practices, and emerging trends like big data analytics and mixed-method research. He reiterated the role of such workshops in helping scholars design impactful and reliable research that can contribute to their fields.
The event was chaired by Prof Lungsang Zeliang, and the inauguration concluded with a vote of thanks by Course Director Dr Ditalak Mpanme, Assistant Professor, Department of Management.
